Rozzy Smith Art Studio
W.E. Rozzy Smith of Hudson, NC has had a love of art since he was a child watching TV artist John Gnagy after school in Battle Creek, Mich. As a military brat, he filled long hours on the road moving from base to base by drawing in the back seat with his John Gnagy charcoal “Learn How to Draw ” kit. In the 1970s, Rozzy used his ability to do political cartoons for daily newspapers when not reporting or editing. After a 14-year career in journalism, he went to Lenoir-Rhyne University and earned a degree in teaching. He shared his love of art with his students. Rozzy retired from teaching in 2012 and has been engaged in painting and drawing almost daily ever since. In his art, Rozzy strives to capture moment, mood and tone. He wants to share the feeling the piece gives him. Conveying the meaning it may have had for him is not his goal. Rozzy hopes the viewer gives his work their own meaning. Rozzy thinks of his work as being akin to Haiku.
