🌒 About the Show
Based on the legendary Scottish ballad Barbara Allen, Dark of the Moon is a dramatic folk tale set in the mystical world of Appalachian mountain culture. The story follows John, a mysterious “witch boy” who falls in love with a human girl, Barbara Allen. Granted human form on the condition that Barbara stays true to him, John faces the harsh realities of prejudice, fear, and small-town superstition. The play explores powerful themes of love, intolerance, and acceptance, culminating in a deeply emotional and thought-provoking ending.
While not a musical, the production will feature extensive music, including a live bluegrass/acoustic folk band and a need for strong singers with choral backgrounds. Those without singing experience are still encouraged to audition—there are many roles for non-singers as well.
