This side-splitting Southern comedy follows the wildly dysfunctional Turpin family as they come together to plan the funeral of patriarch Bud—who was, by all accounts, “mean and surly” right up to the end.
About the Show
When Bud dies suddenly of a stroke, his sons Ray-Bud and Junior, sister Marguerite, and widow Raynelle try to pull together a dignified memorial, but family squabbles keep getting in the way. Junior’s wife Suzanne (correctly) accuses him of infidelity, Ray-Bud drinks to cope with footing the bill at his arch-rival’s funeral home, and Raynelle seems more concerned about making sure Bud’s gravestone reflects his less-than-rosy personality. Packed with colorful characters, quick-witted dialogue, and relatable family chaos, Dearly Departed is both a loving tribute to and a playful parody of life in the Deep South—you’re guaranteed to recognize someone from your own family in this show!
