JAM – YOUTH MUSIC LESSONS
This school year, come JAM with us!
The Caldwell Arts Council Junior Appalachian Muscians program kicks off this September! School-aged students can learn to play their choice of guitar, mandolin, or fiddle in the old-time tradition of learning to play and sing by ear. The program is appropriate for all playing levels including beginners. Classes are held hourly as after-school programs, and students are not required to attend public school to enroll.
Traditional Style and Its Importance: The program focuses on the old-time tradition of playing and singing by ear, a method deeply rooted in the Appalachian region. This approach emphasizes learning music naturally, just as it has been passed down through generations in our community. By playing by ear, students develop a deep connection to the music, fostering skills in listening, improvisation, and collaboration. This tradition is a vital part of our cultural heritage, celebrating the rich musical history of the Appalachian Mountains and keeping it alive for future generations.
· Instructors are Bob Henson for guitar, Jerry McLean for mandolin, and Mary Ervin for fiddle.
